Elderly Persons On an Outing Having Fun
Social outings are another one of REACH activities planned for the older persons. To give the older persons a change of environment, they are often taken on different field trips. Some of the trips include whale watching with ‘dive anchorage,’ picnics on the beach (different location each time), visits to the sulphur springs where they enjoy bathing in the warm sulphur water and visiting other day care centres around the island to communicate and socialize with other older persons.
Meeting their peers are always a joy for them as their faces light up with laughter and the speaking of patois resound in the air as they interact and share their experiences with each other. The social outings always seem to make a big difference in the lives of the older persons as it brings out the best in them where their cheerfulness and humor is concerned.
Another outing the gems (older persons) look forward to is attending the mass for the sick that takes place once a year in St. Mark’s Parish. Their faith in God is so strong that they never want to miss this special event where they also receive ‘Holy Communion’ and anointing of the sick. As some stated, “God is my rock and I can’t live or do anything without Him.”
