Let the Elderly Enjoy Themselves
Every Wednesdays, about twenty (20) older persons gather at the REACH day care from 9:30am to 3:30pm, to have a day of fun and togetherness with each other. The older persons always look forward to this day as it gives them an opportunity to get out of their homes to meet with their peers and staff of REACH.
At the day care, the day begins with prayers followed by breakfast. They are also give a mid morning snack, lunch and sandwiches to take home for their supper. The activities at the day care includes domino matches, playing of cards, watching of movies, exercises to help keep their muscles fit and sometimes even dancing while music is playing. Those who are mobile stand and dance while those who are wheelchair bound make their movement in their chairs.
According to some of the older persons, the day care serves as a ‘home away from home’ for them. Leaving their homes to attend the day care minimizes the loneliness they feel when they are home alone. Storytelling, jokes and singing are also activities that take place at the day centre.
